How To Take Care Of Your Diamond
Diamonds may be forever, but keeping their sparkle requires a little TLC. Strong impacts can chip Diamonds, and they can loosen from their setting over time. Though they cannot scratch, except by another Diamond, they can become dull over time. This is due to the build-up of dirt, oil, and grime on their surface. Build-up reduces the light that is trapped and scattered by the gem to give its trademark twinkle. To keep your Diamond forever sparkling, you should take care of your gem:
Wear your Diamonds for the right occasion
You shouldn’t wear your gemstone wherever there could be a risk of impact, such as during sports or manual work.
Remove or protect from substances or chemicals
Although Diamonds are extremely hardy, the metal setting is not. Over time, even mild chemicals can erode the setting, causing your Diamond to become loose. Wear protective gloves or remove when handling substances such as sunscreen, cleaning products, skin oils, or hairspray.
Store in a padded jewellery box or soft bag
Prevent your Diamond from knocking against other jewellery by storing separately. Do not store Diamonds with other Diamonds, as they can scratch each other.
Clean your jewellery regularly
Gently clean your jewellery using warm soapy water and cloth or a soft brush, such as a baby’s toothbrush. The soap should be mild. For tougher grease, you can dip it briefly in a diluted cleaning solution, such as ammonia.
Have your Diamonds professionally cleaned and examined
Every six months, take your Diamond for a professional clean and inspection. This will keep it looking as beautiful as the day you bought it, forever.
Insure your jewellery with a reputable provider
Protect yourself against the worst-case scenario with an up-to-date independent insurance coverage policy. This will cover you against damage, loss and theft of your diamond.
